Frequently Asked Questions

What are the symptoms of gynecologic cancers?

There is no way to know if you have a gynecologic cancer without have the necessary tests completed; however, there are some warning signs and symptoms that could indicate something is wrong. You know your body best, so it is important to pay attention to these symptoms and understand what is normal for you. These symptoms include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding and discharge
  • Pelvic pain
  • Rashes, sores, and tenderness of the vulva
  • Vaginal odor
  • Sudden bloating
  • Difficulty eating and feeling full too quick
  • An obvious mass or growth
  • Persistent itching

Will I still be able to have children after my cancer treatment?

Although we cannot make any guarantees, it is our priority to administer the best treatment approach to preserve your fertility and treat your cancer.

Is there anything I can do to prevent cancer?

Cancer prevention and early detection is close to our hearts at Women’s Excellence. We advise all of our patients to partake in our heredity cancer screening to see if you are a candidate for genetic cancer testing. This test will determine if you have any genetic markers for future cancers. This information will allow us to closely monitor your health to prevent cancer or find cancer early.

In addition to genetic cancer screening, it is important to attend your annual exam each year. Your provider will be able to detect changes in your reproductive health that could indicate certain cancers.

Does an abnormal pap smear mean that I have cancer?

No. Abnormal pap smears are common and do not immediately indicate the presence of cancerous cells. An abnormal pap smear indicates that unusual cells have been identified on your cervix. Typically, these unusual cells are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus).

It is important to follow-up with your provider if you recently have had an abnormal pap smear. Further tests will help identify the amount and type of unusual cells that were present on your cervix.

We know that cancer does not wait, which is why we offer immediate appointments for our patients. We welcome self-referrals and physician referrals.
